Orange County Convention Center Focuses on Sanitation Strategy to Protect and Promote Health and Well-Being of Guests

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is rapidly affecting the nation and countries around the world. Along with the entire trade show and conventions industry, the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) remains concerned about how to protect employees, clients and the community from harmful viruses and bacteria. With its strategic on-site preparedness plan, the OCCC is implementing rigorous cleaning and sanitation measures to enhance daily routines already in place to promote a clean and healthy environment across the campus.

An essential element of this sanitation strategy includes the introduction of innovative solutions, such as the use of ultraviolet (UV) light. The OCCC aims to implement this solution into their onsite preparedness plan through the use of Violet Defense, an Orlando-based company recognized for bringing clinical-level UV disinfection to everyday spaces. The Violet Defense uses Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) light to kill bacteria, germs and viruses, like the Coronavirus, and this product will be used to sanitize offices, meeting rooms and restrooms throughout the OCCC.

Furthermore, as part of the Center’s ISO 14001 Certification, the OCCC is committed to using ozonated water as a cleaning agent. With 13 systems on hand, the OCCC’s green cleaning ozonated water systems utilize oxygen as a disinfectant. Compared with chlorine, the most common liquid disinfectant chemical, ozone acts a stronger and faster disinfectant agent in destroying viruses and bacteria. This process will be enhanced by the use of foggers and used to fog out restrooms, offices and meeting areas.

During these challenging times, the OCCC also remains dedicated to safeguarding employees who are responsible for sanitizing the Center. Numerous mobile hand-washing sinks have been set up throughout the West and North-South Buildings to provide an extra area for hand sanitation.

With a core mission of sustainability, the OCCC is also incorporating environmentally friendly solutions into their sanitation strategy. This has been achieved by securing a new, local line of hand sanitizer. Durisan, a Florida-based company, offers a water-based, non-toxic and long-lasting formula, releasing no harmful chemicals into the environment in the process. Quest Diagnostics, the company responsible for COVID-19 tests, and the healthcare professionals who are operating the COVID-19 collection site at the OCCC have also utilized this product.

The OCCC is dedicated to protecting the current and future health and well-being of all guests and employees. The Center is prepared to take extra precautions for as long as necessary to inspire confidence within the community and among clients, attendees and guests.
