Construction Conference Pivots to Meet Safely at the Orange County Convention Center

The Florida Transportation Builders’ Association (FTBA) hosted its annual Construction Conference at the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) from Feb. 22-23, 2021.

The hybrid event was a testament to successfully hosting live events under modified operations at the OCCC. FTBA live streamed its in-person educational sessions and featured an interactive trade show and expo encompassing various safety measures and protocols. Working closely with the Florida Department of Transportation, event organizers created a robust agenda that allowed for a productive gathering for both virtual and in-person attendees.

In order to provide a safe environment, conference organizers worked extensively with the OCCC and their host hotel, the Hyatt Regency Orlando, to provide the safest environment for FTBA Construction Conference attendees. Implementing limited capacity, the conference welcomed 1,200 industry professionals allowing for proper social distancing and further enhancing the experience for in-person attendees.

From the OCCC’s expansive ballrooms, which allowed for ample room between seating and exhibit areas, to classroom-style meeting rooms used for breakout sessions, the conference ensured every safety protocol was implemented for its attendees and exhibitors. As a Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) STAR accredited venue, the OCCC also upheld rigorous sanitation protocols throughout the duration of the event. Mandated facemasks, increased hand sanitizer and wellness stations, and available on-site medical staff, were among the health and safety practices executed throughout the event.

The collaboration and extensive planning with event organizers to host modified events, such as the FTBA Construction Conference, is evidence of the Center’s commitment to keeping employees, guests and attendees healthy and safe, as it continues leading the industry in its recovery.
