The Sunshine Classic Tournament Kicks off Volleyball Season at the Orange County Convention Center

ORLANDO, Fla. – (Mar. 19, 2020) The Sunshine Volleyball Classic Tournament, hosted at the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC), welcomed more than 12,300 participants across more than 1,000 teams, from Mar. 6-8, 2020. With thousands of attendees in total, the event generated millions for the local economy.

Hosted by USA Volleyball, the Sunshine Classic Tournament is one of the first of twelve national qualifier events, featuring age groups from 11 to 18.

“We continue to choose Orlando because it is definitely one of the better destinations out there,” said Kristy Cox, Director of Events for USA Volleyball. “Accommodating more than one thousand teams is no small feat, and we rely on the OCCC’s large, flexible facility to bring it to life.”

Spanning more than 763,000 square feet, the event completely transformed the OCCC’s diverse space to set up a total of 133 volleyball courts in order to accommodate the thousands of participants over the course of the event. With ample space and flexibility, the Center of Hospitality remains a top venue for large sporting events.

“The Orange County Convention Center has a phenomenal reputation for hosting a range of athletic-based programs and events,” said OCCC Executive Director Mark Tester. “Our upcoming major expansion project will further enhance our North-South Building, enabling organizers to challenge boundaries, and take their sporting events to the next level.”
