| INTERNATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF THE CHURCH OF GOD BEGINS JULY 27 | The 73rd International General Assembly of the Church of God, will take place on July 27-30, 2010 at the Orange County Convention Center. The event (GA2010) welcomes ministers and lay delegates from around the world and is the venue where official business of the denomination is conducted, worship services are held, leaders are elected and ministries hold gatherings and events.
The assembly is conducted every two years in a large city in the United States. This is the first time the Church of God has conducted the meeting in Orlando. Recent cities where the meeting has been held include San Antonio, Indianapolis and St. Louis.
The Cleveland, Tennessee-based denomination was founded in 1886 and has over 7 million members in 165 countries around the globe. Led by General Overseer Raymond Culpepper, the organization is Pentecostal in its beliefs, similar to the Assembly of God of Springfield, Missouri. It operates dozens of educational institutions around the world, including Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. A Web site (www.churchofgod.org) gives complete information on the organization’s history, ministries and doctrine. The Web site will also give a complete report on the happenings during the week of the Assembly. There will also be links to the schedule, history of the Assembly, local information and exhibits.
During the four days of business sessions at GA2010, the General Council, comprised of ordained bishops who register and attend the Assembly, deliberate and vote on a previously distributed agenda of items presented by the International Executive Council. The General Council then presents their agenda of action back to the registered delegates at the end of the week for further deliberation and a final vote of ratification. The business also includes the election of denominational leaders, such as the five- member Executive Committee, Executive Council and several ministry department leaders.
GA2010 will also include numerous ministry functions, luncheons, gatherings, fellowships and award presentations. The Assembly will be moderated by General overseer Culpepper.
GA2010 officially begins on Tuesday morning, July 27 with the first General Council session. The first worship service will held on Wednesday evening with special speaker Franklin Graham, leader of Samaritan’s Purse and son of well-known evangelist Billy Graham. On Thursday evening First Assistant General Overseer of the Church of God, Tim Hill will minister to the delegates, while Friday evening will be the closing session and will feature an address by the General Overseer. | To request photos, press kits or information for publication; e-mail your request to info@occc.net or call (407) 685-9800 and ask for the public relations department.
